World Inquiry
Connecting the Power of Markets with the Millennium Development Goals
In September 2000 one hundred eighty nine United Nations Member States gathered together to envision the future of human kind at the cusp of the Millennium. The resulting Millennium Declaration challenged the world to reach seven diverse goals spanned across such issues as poverty, health, education, ecology, gender equality, and cooperation, by year 2015.
As the world has already traveled one-third of the way to the pledged date, much work has been done by various organizations and agencies to move towards the targets, and many reports highlight these efforts. However, little attention has been paid to the role of business in achieving the Millennium Development Goals.
The World Inquiry on Business as an Agent of World Benefit seeks to address this knowledge gap by exploring the many ways business can and does contribute to achieving prosperity, equity, and peace as proclaimed by the Millennium Declaration. We call for stories of business practices and innovations that successfully address the Millennium Development Goals at every level, and strive to share and dialogue about the best of what we discover via our the BAWB Innovation Bank and Online Conference 2007.
